Business and Development

The Town of Newport welcomes and supports new business investment in our community.  We are particularly excited about our new wastewater plant that is scheduled to be operational in March 2015.  The new plant will provide a myriad of opportunities for new development and job creation for our citizens while retaining our existing businesses as they continue to grow in our Town.  Newport has recently completed an Economic Development Strategic Plan and will continue to invest in the Town’s infrastructure to better prepare for our future growth.

The Town of Newport works closely with the Carteret County Economic Development Council, Inc. (EDC).  Since 1971, the EDC has promoted the economic vitality of Carteret County and has worked to create jobs, opportunities and investment in our Town.  The EDC works with the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the NC East Alliance and a wide range of other state, regional and local partners to improve the overall business climate and expand the tax base of Carteret County and its municipalities.  The EDC provides a wide range of  information and assistance to retain and expand our existing business, attract new business and promote the growth of emerging and start-up business in the Town of Newport and Carteret County.
