The Mayor is an elected position for a 4 year term. The Mayor is the ceremonial head of the Town of Newport and as such presides over all Town Council meetings.
The Mayor is not a full time paid position. However, Mayor Garner maintains an office at the Town Hall building at 200 Howard Blvd. You may reach the mayor by phone at (252) 223-4749 or make an appointment by calling the Town Clerk at the same number.
It is preferable that town business be conducted at the office rather than at his residence. For emergencies, please call the town hall or the police department, who are better equipped to handle the situation.
