The NFD has a long and proud history serving the residents of Carteret County. The Town with Old Fashioned Courtesy has changed drastically over the years from a colonial seaport to a modern town thriving in the information age. The future looks even brighter for the Newport Fire Department. As the needs of the community change, the department's operations continue to evolve and expand. While moving forward, the department has adopted advancements in equipment and technology. The concept of the fire service has come to include much more than structural firefighting. Proactive fire planning, emergency paramedical services and rescue services augment the daily operational plan. Community involvement through programs such as CERT and Fire Corps keep our citizens well informed and trained to respond alongside us in emergencies. Still, we realize that our heritage and community atmosphere is a strong asset. We know in Newport that there is nothing better than a warm night at the baseball fields watching the children play baseball.
The Newport Fire Department has changed along with our great town over the years. We will continue to adapt our service delivery model to meet the contemporary challenges we face daily. The women and men of this proud department pledge to continue to provide the best possible service to meet the needs of our citizens, and like our ancestors who served here, stand ready to put ourselves in harm's way to protect life and property.
