Town of Newport Public Works Department
Storm Debris Guidelines In the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster the Town of Newport will begin to collect vegetative debris such as tree limbs. This pick up will begin as soon as possible. Please be patient with our crews as they remove this debris. Below you will find a list of guidelines that we ask you to please follow in order to help us expedite our debris removal activities. The guidelines are as follows. ü
Pick up
will begin as soon as possible. The Public Works Department serves many
functions within the Town of Newport and there maybe other tasks that need to be
completed such as road clearing before we can get to debris removal. This time
also allows you the homeowner to get your debris to the road shoulder. ü
No
household garbage, construction debris, landscape timbers, or furniture. Please
place only vegetative debris on the road shoulder. ü
Please
stack all debris parallel with the road. This allows our equipment to more
easily pick up your debris. ü
Please
keep debris away from signs, fences, phone pedestals, fire hydrants, or other
obstructions that may get damaged by our equipment. ü
Leaves,
pine straw, grass trimmings, and small branches should be placed in bags. Bags
should be separated from debris and placed into a separate pile. ü
Limbs
should be cut up into 4-foot lengths if at all possible. ü
Please
notify the Newport Public Works Dept of hazardous materials such as poison ivy
that may be in your storm debris. ü
Again
please be patient with our crews as they remove debris. There may be instances
where a road is blocked by equipment but we are moving as fast and as safely as
we can. We ask that you follow these guidelines in order to
help us help you. We will work as hard as we can to get our town back to normal.
