Newport does not have a formal 'Recreation Department'

However;

All recreational activities are operated by local sports clubs, or non-profit associations through volunteers.
Some of the associations affiliated in Newport are Newport Babe Ruth Association, Newport Little League, Newport Tee-ball, Newport Girls softball, Sea Shore Soccer League, and Newport Basketball Association.
In November 2005 a group of local citizens came together to form the Newport Recreation Advisory Commission.
This is a 7 member commission that meets monthly on the second THURSDAY of each month at 5:30 pm. in the Newport Town Hall.
Members serve three year staggered terms and are appointed by the Newport Town Council when vacancies occur. Applications are kept on file with the Town Clerk for one year. These meetings are open to the public.

There are typically more than 900 kids that participate in structured sports within the town. These programs are run by volunteers.

The Town maintains three parks for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.

There are several town sponsored or endorsed activities that are available to all comers.

The town promotes wholesome FUN...


For instance, the Town sponsors The Annual Newport Pig Cooking Contest, and the Friday Nights 'Pickin' and 'Grinnin' in the Park, which are open to all. Also, be sure to check through the information on the 'Local Links Page'
