The following information may be helpful as you get settled into your new home.

Water Bills: All water meters are read between the 15th and the 20th of the month and are mailed on the 25th or the next work day. All bills are due no later than the 15th day of the following month. A 4% penalty will be applied to all past due amounts on the 16th day of the month. If you have any questions, please call 223-4778. For after hours emergency calls, please call 223-5111.

Garbage: Covered containers must be placed on the street right of way by 7:00am on Tuesdays. Waste Industries will service a maximum of three 35 gallon containers at each residence. You may rent or purchase a 90 gallon, wheeled cart by calling Waste Industries directly at 223-4176.

Recyclables: Recycling is a good idea for our community. As of October 1, 2009 all plastic containers have been banned from NC landfills and must be recycled. Please refer to additional pages on this site for further information on how to recycle. Waste Industries will provide a recycle bin at no charge. Recycle bins should be placed at the curb by 7:00 am on alternate Fridays. Please direct all recycling questions directly to Waste Industries at 223-4176.            Yard Waste: Leaves, pine straw trimmings and small limbs (not more than four feet in length and four inches in diameter) will be picked up by Town of Newport employees on the first and third Wednesdays. Please bag all leaves, pine straw and place limbs in a stack close to the road for pick up. These items should not be placed in garbage cans. Should you have any questions, please direct them to the Public Works Department at 223-3902.
           Waste not covered in these categories is the responsibility of the owner. Items such as refrigerators, air conditioners, washers and dryers should be hauled to the dump located on Hibbs Road. Please direct questions to the dump at 223-3321

Billing and Collections

Utility billing is done monthly based on actual use.
Bills are sent out by the 25th of the month and are due before the 15th.
Late fees are applied on the 16th.

There is a drop box located on the brick wall near the front entrance of Town Hall for your convenience.

Tax bills are due September 1st and considered past due as of January the 6th of 2010.
Penalties of 2% will be applied on the 6th of January 2010, with 3/4% each month there after.

Accounts Payable Report is printed on weekly basis.
The annual budget process starts in March and presented to the Council in May.
